      Leadership

At Cottey, we place a high value on leadership opportunities, encouragement, and mentorship.

Our academic curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning. All of our majors have a senior capstone project, and many majors let the students design, create, and execute the projects themselves.

Cottey's Serenbetz Institute issues grant awards to Cottey College students to enhance learning through summer leadership internships, undergraduate research grants, leadership immersions, and other leadership programming.

You can learn more about our organizational leadership program here.

Or, you can learn about Cottey's Serenbetz Institute for Women's Leadership.

In the world today, there is a definite disparity between the number of men and women in leadership positions. You can find this in every sector in many organizations, and in different parts of the world, and different parts of society where women keep hoping for leadership opportunities and time and time again, they are not prepared, or they are not confident or they are not invited to the table.

Before taking the leadership class here at Cottey, I didn't really like the idea of leadership. I was always called a leader though, in my basketball teams and in class. But I always saw a leader as somebody that is mean or aggressive and demanding. And I didn't see myself that way.

And after getting into those classes is leadership classes and learning that there's multiple different types of leadership. I understood that I could fit in there. And the other thing too, is I just learned a lot about myself and how to be just to believe in myself and be confident and what I do.

We also hope that our students communicate effectively. We want students who can leave this campus with an organizational leadership experience, confident to raise their voice, able to speak up in those moments where we're a voice makes a true difference.
