Nevada is perfect for the student that wants a Midwest hometown feel.
There is just enough of everything. But there's not an excess amount. It's also a really great town if you're trying to stay really focused on what you're doing. You're trying to build close relationships. You know the small business owners in town. You know everybody on campus, and it's just a really good community-family vibe.
Everyone gets to know each other. They get to know people from different social and political and faith-based backgrounds. It's just a wonderful opportunity.
There are so many things to do hiking and boating and kayaking.
We also offer road trips out of town, so we can go to the Renaissance Festival or the Japanese festival, or just go shopping in Nevada, or Joplin or Kansas City.
One thing I do love about Nevada is that in all these local businesses, they have a poster in the window that they welcome Cottey. So you know that they are familiar with the school members of the community are very willing to work with Cottey students.
They embrace our students and give them opportunities to use what they've learned in the classroom, in the community and put it to use to the benefit of the community and to the benefit of the student. We've had students do internships with the local police, with local attorneys.
It is a fantastic opportunity for students, such as myself to go in and kind of see and get that hands-on experience. And, "Is this really something I want to do?"
It's also very safe. I feel very comfortable when walking around town at night and driving anywhere.
I have found that half of the people are P.E.O.s and it has the support of P.E.O.s around the country. It's a very friendly and embracing community.
It's just a great little town.
It's really great. I love it.
